A temperature switch with a bi-metallic sensor is a device designed to open or close an electrical circuit based on temperature. It uses a bi-metallic switch as a sensor element to detect temperature changes and trigger the switching process. The bi-metallic switch consists of two metal strips with different coefficients of thermal expansion that are connected to each other. When the switch is exposed to a certain temperature, the metal strips deform due to their different rates of expansion. This deformation leads to a mechanical movement of the switch. The temperature switch uses the bi-metallic switch as a sensor to monitor the temperature. When the temperature reaches or exceeds the preset threshold, the deformation of the bi-metallic switch causes a movement that either opens or closes the electrical contact. When the switch is open, the circuit is interrupted, and no current flows. This can serve, for example, as a protective device to prevent overheating. When the switch is closed, the circuit is closed, and current can flow, which can, for example, activate a fan or a heater.

Applications and Industries

In industrial automation technology, temperature switches with bi-metal sensors are used in various applications. Here are some typical examples.

Overheat Protection
Temperature switches with bi-metal sensors are often used to prevent overheating in machinery or equipment. They can be used in motors, transformers, electrical cabinets, or generators to ensure that the temperature does not exceed a certain limit. When the temperature reaches the threshold, the temperature switch opens the circuit, thus protecting against overheating damage.

Temperature Monitoring
In many industrial processes, it is essential to monitor temperature. Temperature switches with bi-metal sensors can be used in heating systems, ovens, cooling, and air conditioning systems to maintain the temperature within a specific range. When the upper or lower limit is reached, the temperature switch can open or close the circuit to regulate the temperature.

Fire Alarm Systems
Temperature switches with bi-metal sensors are also used in fire alarm systems to detect overheating or fire. When the temperature reaches a critical value, the switch can trigger the alarm or activate other safety measures.

Cooling Systems
In cooling systems and units, temperature switches with bi-metal sensors are used to control the operation of cooling units. When the temperature reaches a certain threshold, the switch can turn on the cooler or fan to lower the temperature.

Process Control
In industrial processes where temperature is a critical parameter, temperature switches with bi-metal sensors can be used to control the process flow. For example, they can be used to open or close valves, activate pumps, or regulate other process parameters based on temperature.
